No. 1 Soul & Motown Band

February 2013 Update

A good month with a replacement drummer for Andy Cash recruited – his name is Alan Dye and he is looks like being the perfect replacement for Andy. We played to a full house at Sale Conservative Club on 22nd February and our reception was, without doubt, very enthusiastic. A very complimentary review of the night appears elsewhere on this website. We are now developing a strong reputation for not only our big, clean, well rehearsed sound but also our professionalism around how the band behaves, is organised and looks after our clients.  Our next gig is a private event in March in Stockport.

January 2013 Update

Well, no gigs in January but a lot of hard work going into new pieces including classic James Brown favourite I Feel Good and Martha Reeves & The Vandellas Heatwave which are shaping up nicely. The diary is filling up with seven jobs for the year to come including a number of private engagements and wedding celebrations. The sad news is that Andy Cash, mainstay of our back line on drums has decided to move on. He has given great service to the band over the last 15 months and we are grateful for his contribution. Auditions for his replacement are being organised at the moment and we already know that the shortlist is full of quality. Dont forget, next gig is at Sale Conservative Club on Friday 22nd. February.

December 2012 Update

Disappointment early in the month when our gig at New Mills was cancelled by the organisers due to their internal issues. However moving on, the final total for money raised at our Derian House night in November amounted to £1580 and Chorley Guardian covered the presentation of a cheque to the hospice. Our return to The Railway in Leyland on 28th December was as successful as our previous visits and this venue is now firmly established as one of our favourites, Great crowd, excellent atmosphere and a good time had by all, as always. Work now continues on new material including Mercy, best known by Duffy but reinterpreted by The Third Degree, a British acid jazz act much admired by Craig Charles.

November 2012 Update

Again, a single performance this month but very successful. We played for a sell out audience at St Josephs Club on Harpers Lane in Chorley on 30th November with some unlucky music fans being turned away due to room capacity. The gig also featured the successful first public performance of three new numbers weve been working on, Barefootin, Respect and River Deep, Mountain High. Proceeds of an auction and raffle went to Derian House Childrens Hospice in Chorley. Meantime we continue to invest in new and better equipment and have a list of new numbers we are working on to keep our set list fresh. The diary for next year is filling up.

September 2012 Update

Much hard work is now going into rehearsing new work for our Autumn/Winter schedule which is filling up nicely. Respect and River Deep, Mountain High are in progress and Barefootin is almost ready. We attended a Luxury Wedding Fayre in Liverpools Maritime Museum in the Albert Dock where we had a promotional stand and played six 20 minute spots throughout the day. The reception was positive with a number of enquiries resulting. Our performance at Chorley Arts Partnership late in the month was enthusiastically received with a glowing review on Chorley FMs website.

October 2012 Update

Just one performance this month though we were disappointed to have to postpone an appearance at one of our favourite venues, The Railway at Leyland - always a great atmosphere there. But due to ill health we advised the promoter we would not be at our best and arranged for a replacement band to stand in. Alls well that ends well and were back at The Railway on December 29th. Elsewhere, we played a great night at The Longfords Conference Centre in Longford Park, Stretford and by the end of the evening we had everyone on the dance floor! Our next appearance is in Chorley at St Josephs Club, Harpers Lane on Friday 30th November come and see what youve been missing!

August 2012 Update

Well another month has passed and there has been more activity from B L A C K & G O L D. First of all, we would like to announce and congratulate our very own Rachael who got married at the end of last month to Lee Eastham. As you have probably noticed there is a new video on the home page of the website, something we have been waiting to produce in conjunction with a studio visit, if you like the video, can we ask you to share it with as many friends as possible, its also available on our Facebook page.
