Black & Gold has been formed for over four years now and are at a point where we put on an exceptional performance and can fill a dance floor with great music to suit all ages.
The band has seen a members come and go over the initial first year as it found its feet and developed common ground between the players and singers involved. With that in mind the staffing of the band has now been consistent for some time, with the odd replacement as one or two members moved on.
The band has used four rehearsal venues over that time but our current home is by far the most suitable to our needs and therefore the longest running venue we’ve used. It meets our needs in more ways than we could have anticipated, so it’s very unlikely a further move will be required (we hope).
The first of our singers to arrive was Jayne Hales and we knew there was something special when she auditioned; what a powerful voice and an ideal female front for the band with bags of energy, huge powerful vocals and a superb personality to match. We now have four vocalists, all performing a mix of lead and backing vocals which give the band that exta diversity and a great sound.
From the very first time a group of musicians got together to form what was to become Black & Gold, we found that the turnover of musicians would be frequent in the early stages but a constant core for the band has always been Mike Parker, David Parkes, Colin Angell & Karl Angell and now joined by long standing keyboard player John Winder. The newest members of the band to join is Chris Haywood on drums and Mark Oconnor who takes over on Bass
This line up of superb vocalists & musicians enhance the best in soul & Motown music and make Black & Gold a formidable group of entertainers for any UK event.
